New & exciting news for S&L!!!
I’m very excited to say that Silk&Lookies has had a face lift to say the least and has moved to a whole new platform. Currently you can find new and fun content on the new Silkandlookies until we change the new platform over completely. I have loved all of you that have followed S&L for these past years and I hope that you continue to follow my journey as we transform and grow;))

I’m Secretly Obsessed with: Lily Ghalichi
Ok so I barely know this chick and I certainly have never seen an episode of Shahs of Sunset, but she is my new current obsession. I literally saw her one day on Instagram and have been obsessed ever since. She is soooo cute and her style is almost identical to my own. From the dresses she rocks, to her shoes, to her jewelry, to her clips ins, its all me, x10 lol. And since I’ve been reading her blog (which I luvvv), I’ve noticed a ton of similarities outside of fashion. This is weird but our battles with acne are similar and our hair thinning out due to sewins is so identical I almost fell out my chair when I was reading it. Let’s just say that if I was Persian, and a lawyer, with my own swimsuit and eyelash line, we would totally be twins lol. But since we aren’t I’ll just live vicariously through her. It’s Ur Bday: Valeisha Butterfield Edition
Whoop Whoop (Dont you say nothin Dahntay lol)! My sister friend Valeisha’s birthday celebration was this weekend in Dallas! Can I tell you how excited I was to spend not one but two weekends with V!! It just doesn’t happen that often (in fact I don’t think it’s ever happened), when I actually think about, which made this even more special. V and I have known ea other for over 17 years (just typing it makes me feel old smh). And for as long as I’ve known her everyone (including moi) says the same thing, girlie is as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. I remember when I was younger how impressed I was that as pretty and smart as she is, she never once treated anyone badly or looked down on them. Valeisha is genuinely nice to everyone. And let me tell you that is NOT easy nor can I say it about too many others I know. Anddd to top off the beauty and brains, she is also blessed with the most amazing fashion sense. She (and of course Natalie and Dashaun, who gave all of my clothes to Goodwill one day when I was out during freshman year… but that’s for another post lolol) def laid the foundation for the style that I have today. She taught me the necessity of a fly sneaker (ie 1996 new balances in grey and blue lol), that catsuits are the shit (she had a black one that was the first one I ever wore, that could still be rocked today), that bellybuttons should have tattoos lol, that shoes and bags are the key to killin a outfit, and that the halle berry cut ain’t for everybody (she had a SBF stalker back in the day that copied her hairstyle and well, let’s just leave it at that, lolol). And that is really the short list. Home girl was fly before I ever knew what fly was and some of my own flyness is def owed to her. In addition before my LOML and in collaboration with my parents, she is prob single handedly the one friend responsible for all the exciting things I have done in my life. Honestly I could go on and on but I think you get the point. And to have spent Valeisha’s bday in Dallas, Jevette’s bday in Vegas, and Robyn’s bday in Boston all within 4 months, well just know that my life is now complete . Now to the pics:

To Die For Item of the Week – Chanel Sneakers
I am blessed (thanks to him) to own a pair of these. And I absolutely luvvvv them. And others do to. Everywhere I go people stop me and ask who my sneakers are by. My problem is I want them all (they come in black on black embroider), especially the flower ones…because they are soooo amazing! Lol, HELP!!

Inauguration 2013- Well Turn Up Den!!
Lol. I swear that was the phrase of the weekend (well that and YOLO but that’s for another post). Inauguration 2012 was nice to say the least. Great weather, great parties, great fun. As my LOML said, since our President is black, Inauguration basically became Allstar Weekend, lol. And sure enough it def had that Allstar feel. My trip was really quick as I didn’t get in until early Sat evening and I turned right around and left Monday afternoon. Yet I still managed to spend some quality time with my cute cuzzo Anya, saw my granny & granddad and squeezed in much needed girl time with one of my best girlfriends Valeisha. We also went to a brunch hosted by Al Sharpton’s NAN (National Action Network) organization (though we left almost as quickly as we came) and hit the Hip Hop Ball which was interesting to say the least. All in all #funtimes. Take a lookie:

Beauty Is a Beast – Beyonce Knowles
This chick is a beast..Hence the name of my post… Its not too many times that I think FML..but when I look at her and all that’s she’s accomplished in such a short time, not to mention all that God given talent she’s blessed with, on top of natural beauty, plus flawless skin (stalker alert lol) I get a little disgruntled, lol. To her credit Beyonce deserves all the glory and then some, which she has no problem speaking on in her most recent GQ interview. Below a few clips on why she’s not just BaddieBey but BeastlyB.
On what she has to remind herself:
“I worked so hard during my childhood to meet this goal: By the time I was 30 years old, I could do what I want,” she says. “I’ve reached that. I feel very fortunate to be in that position. But I’ve sacrificed a lot of things, and I’ve worked harder than probably anyone I know, at least in the music industry. So I just have to remind myself that I deserve it.”
On her approach to performing:
“One of the reasons I connect to the Super Bowl is that I approach my shows like an athlete,” she says now. “You know how they sit down and watch whoever they’re going to play and study themselves? That’s how I treat this. I watch my performances, and I wish I could just enjoy them, but I see the light that was late.
